Trinity's Peacemaking Committee

Peacemaking Meetings

Do you have a Peacemaking Heart? Come at 6pm on the 1st Tuesday of each month in Trinity’s Room E to join with us in Trinity’s Peacemaking Ministry. For more information, contact Beverley Lutz, 2015 Peacemaking Committee Moderator at (785) 640-6718.

Trinity’s El Salvador Ministry

Trinity has nurtured partnerships with other Kansas churches and with the Calvinist Reformed Church of El Salvador so that our presence there of more than 20 years has expanded to Los Talpetates and Nuevo Calvario. Our friendships thrive as we accompany the folk in these towns as they walk toward their goals (not our goals for them!) of community development. We also provide financial support by way of scholarships for high school & college students, as well as providing funds for teacher salaries and health care worker stipends. For more information, contact Ken Cott.

Topeka Center for Peace and Justice

Trinity, through the Peacemaking Committee, provides some financial support as well as works with the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice. The Center organizes a program each year for the "Whose Dream Is It?" dinner held on Martin Luther King Day. In 2014, the Center initiated a Gun Violence Task Force to find solutions for the growing gun violence in society. The Center also works with programs involving human trafficking and anti-bullying. Most recently, the Center has initiated a pilot family mediation program which will work with youth and families. For more information contact Marty Peterson.

Easter Prayer Vigil

Parishioners sign up for 30 minute intervals to pray through the night starting at 8pm on Maundy Thursday through 6am Good Friday morning. For more information contact Anton Ahrens.

Topeka JUMP (Justice Unity & Ministry Project)

Topeka JUMP is an ecumenical coalition of 17 churches in Shawnee County and is an affiliate of DART (Direct Action and Research Center). Trinity has been a member of Topeka Jump since it started in May 2012. JUMP was founded on the words of the prophet Micah and the actions of the prophet Nehemiah. God requires us to seek justice and Topeka JUMP is the vehicle for which Trinity and other churches in Shawnee County work to live out God’s requirement of us. By building the power of organized people, Topeka JUMP works to make systemic impacts to address the root causes of injustices in Shawnee County. Trinity has three seats on JUMP’s Board of Directors, the pastor and two lay persons. For more information, contact Jane Williams or Stan McAdoo. Or to visit the JUMP website, click here

Green Team

Trinity provides environmental stewardship under the heading of the Green Team. Currently we have bins for recycling paper, cardboard, aluminum, plastic, and glass. Contact Vicky Walters at 272-2620 for more information.
