In the Presbyterian Church, baptism is one of the most exciting and important parts of worship. Baptism signifies:
- The faithfulness of God.
- The washing away of sin.
- Putting on the fresh garment of Christ.
- Being sealed by God’s Spirit.
- Adoption into the covenant family of the Church.
- Resurrection and illumination in Christ.
We baptize both adults and children. In both types of baptism, we believe God is at work in the lives of the one being baptized.
When a youth or adult is baptized, they are making a profession of faith claiming that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of their life. The baptism of youth and adults offer a witness to God’s grace that calls for a response. Baptism is just the beginning of a person’s faith journey, and Trinity joyfully walks alongside those being baptized, helping them grow as followers of Christ.
Baptism for youth and adults usually occurs in combination with becoming members of Trinity. To learn more about joining Trinity, click here.

Presbyterians believe that a person may be baptized at any age, including infants and children. It witnesses to the truth that God’s love claims us before we can even respond, that God’s covenant love includes us even before we know God.
Therefore, for many Presbyterians, baptism takes place during infancy. Parents bring their baby to church, where they publicly declare their desire for the baby to be baptized. The parents make a profession of faith on behalf of their child. As the parents claim that Jesus is their Lord and Savior, they also make commitments to raise their child to know Jesus Christ. In baptism, a child becomes a part of the church family, and we hope that they will make their own decision to follow Jesus Christ. Trinity commits itself to nurture the child in faith in baptism and to support the family in their walk of faith.
